My first bloody encounter was some 40 years ago, back in my hometown in Kelantan.
There was a flood. Flood to us was not something new or scary as it comes during every monsoon season. Many would come out to check on the water level to make early preparation if an evacuation was needed.
I was among the crowd when a woman fell and hurt herself. I do not recall how the accident happened but she was badly hurt and there was a lot of blood.
Everyone tried to help. Some how I went forward to help carry the woman. There was a Land Rover coming so I helped to get the woman on the vehicle.
The Land Rover left for the hospital and I was left with my shirt full of blood.
I never like the smell of blood and I don't think anyone does! That was many years before I started to donate my blood.
I could not get rid of the blood stain on my shirt so I had to throw that shirt away.
Back then, no one talked about race or religion. The woman I helped was definitely of different race and religion. Those people who helped her too were of different race and religion. All that was on our minds then was to help and save the woman. Oh, yes, no one stopped me from helping a woman too!
Today, tolerance, understanding and respect have become thinner that tissue paper that a non-issue could be blown out of proportion. We seem to be more eager to hurt others than trying to help!
Are we more educated than our forefathers? I don't think so!
Life Lesson 101: When we tolerate the goons we will eventually become crooks!
