Privacy and Convenience

Some of my friends would send me a message before calling. I do the same too!

These are very understanding friends. We are not being particular or wanting an appointment set before making a call!

We all know well that our convenience might not be convenient to others. Even with a message sent we would not wait for the delivery report or the read report which is the double blue ticks!

Some people could get very impatient. They would call at their convenience or urgency and expect the other party to pick up the phone and answer right away, forgetting that they call at weird hours!

When the first call is not answered they would keep calling and by the time the call is answered they get very upset that the other party takes so long to answer, forgetting the initial purpose of calling!

When a message report shows double blue ticks these people would expect a reply immediately, forgetting of course about the convenience of others, or certain answers need time to find out!

To let these impatient people get even more impatient, I set my read receipt off! So senders would only see that the message has been delivered but never read! Of course by doing so I would not know if my message is read or not. I would not mind as I respect the privacy and convenience of others.

Even when I make a call and the call is not answered, I would normally leave a message on the purpose of my call and if it is not urgent I would also say so. At least the recipient would not get worried when he or she could not answer my call or reply to my message!

Despite considering myself as being patient, I do not have the patience to read through chat group messages especially from groups where all kinds of unrelated messages are sent or shared.

I stand by the motto that if the message is important then send it directly to the recipient. However if a person spams my inbox with all kind of messages then I would miss out on important messages from this person.

I am not anti sharing of information however I appreciate friends who understand what to share and what not to share with a particular friend.

Every friend has his or her own preferences. If we are really friends we would know that well. So share and forward messages selectively and not blasting everything to everyone without filtering. That kind of sharing is not caring, it is spamming!

One more thing, I seldom use voice messages. If the recipient is not convenient to pick up my call he or she would not be convenient to listen to my voice messages. Simple as that!

Previously text message was used because it is cheaper especially when we are far apart. These messages are sent and received free of charge when WiFi is available. Now that with many data plans offering free calling we could simply talk instead of texting!

Life Lesson 101: True friends understand and respect the privacy and convenience of each other!
