During my final year in college I was considered as one of the troublemakers!
Was I really a troublemaker?
I took part in the college election during my first year and I won. My opponent requested for a recount. After a recount, my opponent was pronounced as the winner. The glaring fact was, the total number of votes cast was reduced! I knew something went on during the recount. There was a blackout in the room where the votes were recounted!
Some friends asked me to protest. I declined.
I attended all the annual general meetings (AGM) after that and I made sure I went through every single detail in the minutes, reports and resolution. I raised questions, I gave comments and I requested for corrections.
I was strongly supported by my fellow college mates but the executive committee members weren't too happy. However they could not wrong me because I pointed what was wrong and it was obvious enough for everyone to see. Others dared not voice out but I did.
Not that I am smart but I received feedback and inputs from my friends. My strength was I articulate well, I could express better without fear and I could argue and answer too when I was questioned!
Some of the Executive committee members privately requested for me to tone down especially on matters related to their portfolios. Some came to see me in advance asking for advice. I always pointed out to them what needed to be improved.
Once a resolution was to be passed during one of the AGMs and the resolution was affecting everyone in the college. Everyone was not happy but the Excos were adamant at passing it.
When I was asked at the eve of the AGM, I told them I was going to watch a movie the next day.
So I went for a movie the following day and guess what? Others too went for a movie!
The AGM was called off as there wasn't enough quorum to commence the AGM.
I was accused of being the mastermind. I told them I only went for a movie as I was feeling bored since I was requested by some Excos to not to speak during the AGM. If that was wrong then I was guilty as charged!
That resolution was eventually dropped!
Was I the troublemaker?
