Live On For The Better

A friend called me out for a drink.

It was dinner time but I have had my dinner earlier as I cooked at home. So I had my drink while she took her dinner.

She told me about a mutual friend of ours who was having relationship problem with her husband.

As usual, I listened.

She said the friend was trying to commit suicide! Again? I exclaimed.

Yes, again, she said.

It was somewhere at the end of last year when she received a call from our mutual friend. The friend said she was at the hospital. She was trying to kill herself! However her family members found her on time and sent her to the hospital.

Instead of consoling her, the friend who had drinks with me told her that if she could survive then they would have steamboat dinner the following evening!

I laughed, not because I was heartless but because what she told her friend reminded of an earlier incident.

Anyway, they ended up having the steamboat dinner. The friend talked it out, laughed it out and finally getting out of it.

I felt relieved, even more so when I was told the friend has since changed. She took better care of herself, dressed nicely and finally putting on make-up again. I was also told if I were to meet her again, I would be pleased to see her!

I was also happy that the friend who had drinks with me was herself attempting suicide once. Instead of stopping her, I told her to go ahead if she wanted to die for the people who didn't care for her instead of living for the people who cared for her and whom she also cared for!

She was angry at me at first being heartless but came to her senses after thinking over what I have told her.

She did not commit suicide of course and lives on even better so much so that she could even tell her friend almost the same thing what I have told her!

Of course she is in a better position to advice her friends as she has personally gone through the darkest part of life!

Life Lesson 101: Live on for the better, not dying for the worse!
